Robert Downes, a Michigan native and award-winning author, gave a presentation, fielded questions, and signed copies of his new book, “Raw Deal: The Indians of the Midwest and the Theft of Native Lands,” at the Northeast Michigan Arts Center in Standish Sept. 10.

Comins Township hosted its annual Harvest Festival Sept. 13 at Boney Park. Rows of pumpkins were on hand to be painted by youngster. People gathered around the petting zoo to see native and exotic animals. Local musicians provided a soundtrack for the event. Fairview Fire Department set up fire hoses for civilians to try out.

Luzerne celebrated Labor Day with the End-of-Summer Bash Aug. 29-31.

Wellspring Lutheran Services hosted Summer Fest on the grounds of its Fairview nursing facility Aug. 15. Residents of the facility and members of the community celebrated together, enjoying a picnic lunch, live music and all sorts of entertainment.
