The Mio Thunderbolts girls basketball season comes to an end with a nail-biting match against Gaylord St. Mary
MIO – The Mio Thunderbolts are riding high after clinching the district championship with a hard-fought 55-41 victory over Au Gres-Sims March 7.
Oscoda County varsity boys basketball teams from Fairview Area Schools and Mio AuSable School traveled to Au Gres Feb. 28 to face each other in the district final. Mio Thunderbolts defeated the Eagles 46-25. Mio’s coach Ty McGregor commented on the win.
Mio AuSable varsity girls team secured the North Star League-Little Dipper championship Feb. 13 with a 40-28 victory over Hillman.
Fairview Area Schools celebrated homecoming Feb. 7. During the school day, students competed against each other. The seniors took the top spot in mock Olympics and the freshman class placed first in the lip sync competition.
Mio AuSable’s varsity boys’ basketball team played Atlanta Feb. 7, winning 56-24. After the game, players, coaches, families and fans gathered in the little gym to recognize the basketball careers of seniors Jay Brucher and Jamison Cooper.
Athletic director Ashley Marsh gave a sports update during the Jan. 13 meeting of the Mio AuSable Schools Board of Education. He said Mio’s wrestling team traveled to Bad Axe Jan. 11 and placed seventh out of 23 schools.
Fairview Eagles hosted Mio AuSable Thunderbolts Jan. 9 for girls and boys varsity basketball games.
Players and spectators gathered at Fairview Area Schools Nov. 29 to catch up with old friends and watch the first Fairview vs. Fairview Alumni Basketball Games. Six contestants entered the ugly holiday sweater contest. The competition was tough.
