The annual auction fundraiser Eagle Spirit/Eagle Pride, scheduled for April 12, is still on, in spite of the recent ice storm which downed trees and utility lines. Anne Tompkins, one of the event organizers, gave an update to the Herald during a recent stop at Fairview Area Schools.
“I was debating about whether we should have it,” she said. “I’ve talked to a few people here and they said, ‘Go ahead and have it because it might be a good morale booster and community event.’ Hopefully everyone will have their power back by next week.”
The menu for the event reflects the Hollywood theme, “Lights, Camera, Auction!
“We’re supposed to have kind of a glam dinner,” Tompkins said. “A good dinner, by donation.”
The menu, which may change depending on available ingredients, is chicken bruschetta, marinated pork medallions, pasta, potatoes, green bean almondine, glazed carrots, and for dessert chocolate or lemon mousse. Fairview Food Market is once again helping out with the food.
“We haven’t finalized it yet,” Tompkins said. “Because of the situation this week it might change.”
Tompkins’ trip to businesses in Alpena and Gaylord who usually contribute to the auction was put on hold due to the storm. There is still time, for any businesses and individuals who are able, to contribute to the event.
“We’re still taking donations, up until Saturday morning,” Tompkins said.
Matthew Tuttle, of Let’s Talk Auction is the auctioneer. A popular item — 10 cord of pulpwood — is back, times two. LoaderUp and Welch Land & Timber have each donated this useful item to the auction. For a hot day after summer finally arrives, bidders should consider a large inflatable water park donated by Fairview Hardware. Students will offer yard clean-up as an auction item. That may be a big item this year.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. The silent auction begins at 5:30 p.m. The live auction will start at 6 p.m. The event takes place in the multi-purpose center at Fairview Area Schools, 1879 E. Miller Road (M-33), Fairview.
