Here are just a few of the fun and helpful things you can do in Oscoda County this month. There’s something fun to do every week to chase away cabin fever! The senior menu for the week of April 7 can be found below.
April – Visit Love INC ReCreations Shoppe for items from over 50 consignors: gifts, hand-made cards, home décor, plants, household items and kitchenware. Visit the Love INC ReCreations Shoppe page on Facebook to see new items. ReCreations Shoppe is located at 1558 N. Abbe Road in Fairview, one block north of the light. April 4 – Women’s Bible Study, every Friday, 9 to 11 a.m. at The Bridge in Fairview. Ruth Ressler leads a study of 1 & 2 Peter.
April 4 – Community Food Pantry at TriPoint Church of God. Call Love INC at 989-848-2020 to register for an appointment. Friendly volunteers assist with shopping experience. Free lunch! This will be the only pantry day this month as April 18 is Good Friday,
April 5, 12 – Centershot Archery, every Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at TriPoint Church of God, 831 W. Miller Road (Co Rd 608). Youth ages seven and older are invited. Equipment provided. Pre-registration is not required. For more information, contact Steven at 989-255-1342.
April 8, 15 – Grief Share, a support group for anyone experiencing grief, especially the loss of a loved one, meets at The Bridge in Fairview, 1554 N. Abbe Road, every Tuesday, 1 to 3 p.m. through the end of April. For more information, contact Pastor Lowell Eastman, 989-848-2953.
April 10 – Men’s Bible Study, 7 p.m. every Thursday at The Bridge in Fairview, led by Chad Margita of Mio Baptist Church. All men are welcome to attend. The Bridge is located at 1554 N. Abbe Road, one block north of the light in Fairview.
April 10 – Easter Bonnets & Teatime, 2 p.m. at The Bridge, 1554 N. Abbe Rd, Fairview. Ladies and daughters, it’s time to be creative and have fun decorating hats or caps for our own Easter Parade. Bring hats and decorations if you can or use what we have. Tea and treats provided. The event is free.
April 11 – Commodity Food distribution is held 12-1 p.m. in the parking lot at Tri Point Church of God, 831 W. Miller Road (Co Rd 608). Recipients must be at least 60 years old, meet income requirements and sign up ahead of time. Pick up an application at the Oscoda Council on Aging senior center or call Sue at 989-826-3025 to get reactivated. The food is from Food Bank of Eastern MI, Flint.
April 11, 25 – SoulCore Exercise Class, every other Friday at 11 a.m. in the parish hall, St. Mary Catholic Church, Mio.
April 11, 25 – The Clothing Closet is open second and fourth Fridays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mission House of Comins Community Church, 4263 W. First Street, at the west end of the church parking lot. Free quality clothes and shoes for men and women. Visit otherwise by appointment: call 989-848-2909.
April 12 – Jamboree at Open Mike Productions, Seymore Avenue at First Street, in Comins: Country Poor Boys of Gaylord, 6 p.m. $10 admission includes meal.
April 17 – Soup Supper: free soup, bread and dessert served the third Thursday of every month, 5 to 6:30 p.m. at New Hope Assembly of God, across from Family Dollar in Mio.
April 18 – Community Good Friday Service: Cross Walk at noon in Mio begins at New Hope Assembly of God, across from Family Dollar, and proceeds downtown for a short service. The public is welcome to attend the walk and the service.

Lunch starts at 11:45 a.m. at the Oscoda County Council on Aging Senior Center in Mio. All meals are served with milk. A $3 donation is suggested for seniors 60 and over. The cost is $6.50 for those under 60.
Soup and Bread, a fundraiser for the Senior Center, is available most days as a to-go option. Soup is $6 for 32 oz. There are usually two choices, but sometimes only one, especially on Fridays. A small round loaf of bread is $1.50.
OCCOA also has a Homemade Pie fundraiser. Crème pies are $11. Choose chocolate, banana, lemon, peanut butter or coconut. Pumpkin or Dutch apple pies are $12 each. Order by Wednesday to be picked up on Friday by 1 p.m. Place your order on the Oscoda County Council on Aging Facebook page or call 989-826-3025.
