On a whim

George Phillips and his buddy, Dan Tchorzynski, made a last minute decision to bring a tractor to the AuSable Valley Engine & Tractor show.

Two years ago, Phillips bought a 1939 Allis Chalmers B hand crank tractor from and elderly woman. “Before she passed, I told her I’m going to try and put it in a parade for her,” he said. “I never could get it going.”

The first day of the AuSable Valley Engine & Tractor Club, Dan Tchorzynski said, “Why don’t you get that thing running and take it to the tractor show?”

“It hasn’t run in two years,” Phillips said. “I’ve never had it running.”

Tchorzynski said, “I can get it running.”

“Five minutes later he’s driving the tractor around I am completely blown away,” Phillips said. “I’ve never seen it run, and here we are. Is that crazy?”
