Carter Toensfeldt, Nick Trader and Joel Kauffman placed first, second and third in two-lap division of the 40th annual Relief Sale Run held Aug. 1 at the Oscoda County Fairgrounds during the Northern Michigan Relief Sale and Quilt Auction.
For the first time in history more than 100 boats have finished the AuSable River Canoe Marathon. The event, which took place overnight July 26-27, included 230 competitors from Michigan, 18 other U.S. states, Canada, Great Britain and Beliz, and drew thousands of spectators.

A record field of 116 teams are registered for the AuSable River Canoe Marathon, including elite marathon canoe racing athletes from twenty-one U.S. states, Canada, Great Britain, and Belize.
More than 6,500 hunters have been selected in the annual drawing for Michigan’s popular bear and elk hunts.
Competitors paddled, pedaled and ran the AuSable Valley Triathlon June 14. The race began with one-mile in the kayak on Mio Pond. Cyclists pedaled 11 miles uphill through Huron National Forest to Boney Park in Fairview. The final leg was a three-mile run in the park. Individuals or teams pf two or three compete.
Last weekend was MDNR’s ‘Three Free Weekend’ featuring free entry to state parks and license-free fishing and ORVing.
Mio AuSable’s varsity softball team traveled to Vestaburg June 7 to face off against the Michigan Lutheran Seminary Cardinals
The eighth AuSable Valley Triathlon, a fundraiser for Love INC-Oscoda County, will be held Saturday, June 14.
