Kirtland Community College is proud to announce its 60th anniversary, marking six decades of educational excellence, community partnerships and service to northern Michigan. Throughout the 2025-2026 academic year, the college will celebrate this milestone with a year-long series of events, publications and community engagement opportunities designed to honor its past while looking toward the future.

The evolution of operations at your community newspapers continues, as we consolidate into the southern half of the building at 215 Houghton Avenue in West Branch. Our crew is small but mighty and we keep the office open for regular business hours the best we can, although a sick day for any one of us can significantly impact office hours and news coverages.

Land values and cash rents

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s annual look at farmland values and cash rents was released. USDA Chief Economist Seth Meyer says cash rents are showing flat value changes year-over-year while farmer’s assessed value of their agricultural real estate increase by 4.3 percent.
