Who’s on the countywide ballot?

Nominating petitions and affidavits of identity for partisan and nonpartisan candidates in the August 6 primary have been filed. This election will narrow the candidate field to one person from each party.

This is a big year for local elections. All four county commissioner positions will be elected in 2024. Commissioner Chuck Varner, District 1, is being challenged by Vern Lanczak. Commissioner Tom McCauley, District 2, is being challenged by Annette Chalmers. Commissioner Jackie Bondar of District 3 and Commissioner Ted Handrich, District 4, are running unopposed. Commissioner Libby Marsh, District 5, is not running for another term as commissioner.

Two Oscoda County incumbents, County Clerk Ann Galbraith and Sheriff Keven Grace are not running for reelection. Jenny Cronkright, Marsh and Cody Rossen have thrown their hats in the ring for Clerk/Register of Deeds. Taylor Kann, David Stenzel and Bradley Wymer are running for Oscoda County Sheriff.

Incumbent County Treasurer Bill Kendall is running unopposed. Probate Judge Cassandra Morse-Bills and Prosecuting Attorney Kristi Whaley, also incumbents, are running unopposed.
