Walter W. Sewell, 96, of Lewiston died peacefully at Aspen Ridge Retirement Village in Gaylord in the early morning of March 10, 2019.

He was born Dec. 30, 1922, in Detroit to the late Herbert and Mary (Barnhardt) Sewell. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. He married his wife, Gertrude “Billie” (Anderson) Sewell, in Washington, Mich., on June 21, 1947, and together the couple celebrated 71 years of marriage before Billie’s passing in December 2018. As an engineer for Ford Motor Company, Walter retired in 1980. While working at Ford, he also was a part-time farmer and owned 200 acres in Washington. He was president of the Romeo School Board from 1964-1966 and was a member of the Washington Lions Club. The couple resided in Lewiston since 1980 and owned a cabin in the area since the 1950s. They owned a home in Bradenton, Fla., where he and Billie would spend their winters. He enjoyed a variety of hobbies including farming, golfing, bird hunting, and most importantly, spending time with family. Walter will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his children, Suzy Scott, Doug (Sheryl) Sewell and Kathy (Paul) Eschenburg, all of Lewiston; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Mary Sewell; wife, Billie; and brothers, John and Jim.

As were his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family has chosen to remember Walter privately at this time. Arrangements were entrusted to Green Funeral Home. Condolence messages may be sent via www.greenfuneralhomes.com.
