Robert E. Holtslander III

Robert E. Holtslander III, 60, of Luzerne, formerly of Linden, passed away in the comfort of his home May 27, 2018, in the arms of his wife.

Rob, as he was known by his family and friends, was born April 5, 1958, in Flint, the only son of Robert E. Jr. and Mary Ann (Ramos) Holtslander. After graduating from Linden High School in 1976, Rob attended Ferris State College for two years.

Rob was employed as an industrial painter most of his life and at one time sold autos at Massey Inc. in Grand Blanc. He had also owned his own business as a professional painter. He had been a member of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Local 1052 in Flint as a journeyman painter before retiring in 2015 due to lymphedema and the cancer known as squamous cell carcinoma, the latter of which claimed his life.

He enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles, fishing, golf, telling jokes and spending time at the Moose Lodge 1035 in Mio where he was a member.

Rob married Diane Stanley of Petoskey in Mio on Oct. 8, 2010, after their long-term relationship since 2002. The couple moved to Luzerne in 2010 when purchasing their home after moving from Flint ad renting in Fairview and Mio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ann in 2003 and Robert in 2008; his paternal grandparents, Robert Sr. and Dorothy (Wertman) Holtslander of Linden; two uncles, Lloyd and Fred Holtslander; one aunt, Barb (Holtslander) Dupree; And his dog, Shane, in 2016.

Rob is survived by his loving wife, Diane; sister, Dana McDonald and her children Samantha and J.J.; and one great-niece, Maci, all of Florida; along with two aunts, Betty (Richard) Fent of South Carolina and Nettie (Fred) Holtslander of Linden; several cousins and longtime friends; and his father’s widow, Shirley (Robbins-Cooney) Holtslander of Luzerne.

According to his wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date. Services will be handled by Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Standish Chapel.
