Reportedly stolen vehicle located engulfed in flames

MIO — Oscoda County Sheriff’s deputies were called out to a report of a stolen vehicle July 5, only to find it a short while later engulfed in flames.

According to Sheriff Kevin Grace, at approximately 10:50 p.m. July 5 deputies were called out to a local business near the intersection of Mount Tom and Cherry Creek roads for a report of a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies learned that a customer of the business reported a 2004 Chevrolet Duramax pickup was stolen from their possession.

During the course of the deputies’ investigation, they received a report of a vehicle on fire on Coupland Road near Luzerne. Grace said when deputies responded, they determined the vehicle was the one that was reported stolen approximately 40 minutes earlier.

Grace said the Luzerne Fire Department responded to put out the fire. The Michigan State Police fire marshal has been called in to investigate the situation.

Grace said if anyone has information related to the alleged theft and subsequent fire, they should contact his office at 989-826-3214.
