Local food pantry receives $1,200 donation

MIO — After a recent donation from mBank the Together We Can food pantry has saved up enough money to provide supplemental food assistance through at least March.

Pantry board member Melissa Barve said the charity was completely unaware this was going to happen.

“This was a total surprise,” Barve said. “The other day they called and asked about volunteering. After we were done, that was when they decided to present us with the check. We had no idea it was coming.”

Barve said the $1,200 donation will pay for the delivery and contents of an entire semi-truckload of food. She said although this donation financially sets the pantry up through March, the pantry is still accepting donations for future trucks. The more money the pantry is able to store, the longer it will be able to provide assistance to the county.

Barve said she is blown away by the amount of support the organization has garnered from the community so far.

“It’s awesome, how do you even put it into words?” she said. “We cried, does that count?”

According to the group’s Facebook account, the next food distribution will be Dec. 20 from 1-4 p.m. at the county fairgrounds.
