Inaugural Fireman’s Bash to raise money for fire department

LUZERNE — The Luzerne Firefighter’s Association is looking to raise money for the local fire department through its first Fireman’s Bash Saturday, Sept. 7.

Luzerne Volunteer Fire Department Chief Grant Shepard said attendees will be able to meet the firefighters and enjoy a good show, which will include music by Mike Ross as the opener and Rachelle Rae and the Banned as the main show. Guitarist Don Davis of Luzerne will be playing as part of Rachelle Rae.

Additional entertainment will include a car smash — in which someone can pay to swing a sledgehammer at a car — as well as games, a beer tent, food and raffles.

The party begins at 5 p.m. with music at 6, but after 9 p.m. an age minimum of 18 goes into place. Shepard said he expects the event to continue until midnight or 1 a.m.

It will be located at the Luzerne Express Campground, where camping may be available upon inquiry. Tickets are $15 per person and $25 per couple, and those younger than 18 are free as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Shepard said the firefighter’s association helps to raise money for extra things the fire department is unable to get from the township or other means. It has hosted gun raffles in the past, but Shepard said it was hoping to do something bigger.

“We’re giving the community a little bit by putting on the event and hoping they’ll give back to us,” Shepard said.
