Georgia M. "Sally" Shantz

Died March 5, 2019


Georgia Mary “Sally” Shantz, 90, of Comins passed away the morning of March 5, 2019.

She was born Nov. 12, 1928, in Comins to George Bailey and Martha (Fultz) Bailey. She was married to Merlin Shantz on May 29, 1947, in Comins Mennonite Church, where she was a lifelong member. They lived for a time in the Fairview area, and moved to Ocqueoc where Shantz Construction built many cottages and other buildings in the Hammond Bay area. After their four children were grown, they spent part of each year in North Port, Fla., where they were also active in building projects. Sally was an avid reader; she also enjoyed sewing and quilting. She said she hated cooking but she never let anyone in her kitchen!

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Merlin Shantz; her children, Rodney (Sandra), Randy (Bob), Susan (Tim) and David (Denise); grandchildren, Corina Akers, Craig Shantz, Allison Shantz and Sally Jenks; great-grandchildren, Gavin McCain and Cole Akers; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy (Doug) Winton and Shirley (Emerson) Larrison; and her brother, Roy “Buck” (Darlene) Bailey.

In accordance with Sally’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Saturday, March 9, 2019, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. with memorial services to follow, at Fairview Mennonite Church, Pastor Dave Price officiating with a lunch to follow.
