Two year old found alive after overnight search

OSCODA COUNTY – Details are still unfolding, but search parties have located 2-year-old Gabriella Vitale in good health.

Vitale went missing July 15 at approximately 8:30 a.m. as her family, who is from Monroe and was camping in the area, was preparing to head home.

For more than 24 hours, search crews from across the state banded together to scour the rural woods in Oscoda County to find Vitale.

Meanwhile, Vitale apparently wandered through the woods, first in a southerly direction before heading to the far west edge of the search quadrant, which Michigan State Police Lt. Travis House said was the next and final quadrant to be searched. However, it wasn’t the rescuers who found Vitale, but the other way around. Vitale approached a nearby residence at approximately 11:30 a.m. July 16. House said the resident was aware of the missing child and immediately contacted the authorities.

House said Vitale was found in good health but was being transported to the hospital for evaluation.
