Elizabeth L. ‘Betty’ Knauf

Died Oct. 14, 2018


Elizabeth Lucille “Betty” Knauf, 89, of Mio passed away at her home, surrounded by her loved ones, on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018.

Elizabeth was born in Bay City on Aug. 7, 1929, a daughter of the late Lura Maude (McCormack) and Dudley Dunk Palmer.

Betty lived in the Mio and Luzerne areas all her life. She graduated from Mio High School class of 1947 and attended Michigan State University. Betty had worked for Mio AuSable Schools in the kitchen and later as a secretary, and also worked as a secretary for Oscoda County Housing Commission. Betty was an avid reader, enjoyed bird watching, cooking, camping, bluegill fishing, garage saling and antiquing, and always loved “doing for others.”

Surviving are her husband, Edward E. Knauf; children, Brian Chicha (Rose Stutesman) of Williamsburg, Craig (Tavia) Chicha of Fairview and Linda (Jay) Jagiello of Mio; grandchildren, Tiffany Ralph, Mike Chicha, Chris Chicha, Jennifer Chicha, Maelynn Watrous and Lydia MacIntyre; 11 great-grandchildren and one expected great-grandchild; and her sister, Sue Schramm of Luzerne.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Lena Palmer; brother, Bob Palmer; and sister Charlotte Avery.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A remembrance gathering will be held Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, from 2-6 p.m. at the Skyline Event Center, 3309 Abbe Rd., Comins, MI 48619.

Memorials may be made to the Oscoda County Library, to promote early childhood literacy, 430 Eighth St., Mio, MI 48647, or pick a day and “pay it forward” for someone, in Betty's memory.
