Cheboygan man killed in ATV accident at Bull Gap

MENTOR TWP. — A 43-year-old Cheboygan man was killed Aug. 17 at the Bull Gap hill climb area southeast of Mio when he lost control of his ATV.

Eric Warren, the single occupant of the 2008 Yamaha Grizzly 350cc, was driving down the hill via the south side trail at approximately 11:30 a.m. when he lost control, according to Oscoda County Sheriff Kevin Grace. The ATV subsequently flipped over and Warren was ejected from it. Grace said he died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The cause of the accident is not yet known. Grace said alcohol is not believed to be a factor, but medical issues and speed have not been ruled out. His office is awaiting the results of an autopsy.

Assisting on scene were the Oscoda County EMS, Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division and a Michigan State Police accident investigator from the Houghton Lake post. Results of the investigation are pending.
