Big Creek Twp. hires new blight officer

Posted

BIG CREEK — A new blight officer was hired by the Big Creek Township board at its May 16 meeting.

The township hired Jim Bundoff, an Elmer Township resident to take over the position that had been vacant since the previous officer voluntarily left the position in December of 2018. Supervisor Randy Booth said the township is not concerned with the fact that Bundoff is not a Big Creek resident. He said the township can benefit from having a blight officer that does not have personal relationships with residents that could lead to unintended preferential treatment.

Booth said the township receives roughly 30-40 complaints about possible blight offenses per year. He said those complaints do not always result in a formal letter or citation from the township. He said he would prefer the resident be informed of any infractions and given time to rectify the situation before the township takes action.

“Jim is a pretty personal guy, so I think he’ll try to fix the situations without resorting to citations,” Booth said.

Bundoff’s first day patrolling the roughly 144 square miles of the township was May 23. Booth said Bundoff will work roughly five to six hours per week, and will earn $13.50 per hour. That wage is up 50-cents from the previous year.
