Big Creek once again postpones decision allowing recreational marijuana businesses

BIG CREEK TWP. — The Big Creek Township board decided to once again postpone a decision on whether it will allow recreational marijuana businesses to be within the township.

The decision was postponed at the June 20 board meeting. Supervisor Randy Booth said he was made aware that the Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs would be giving townships ample time to review regulations sent down before they are enacted. He said due to that he is under the impression that it would be unwise for the township to make decisions without having all of the information at hand.

Trustee Karen Mitchell asked if the board would be opening the floor to residents once again to listen to community concerns or opinions about the decision. Booth said when the township made a decision regarding medical marijuana businesses the floor was opened to the community at multiple meetings before a decision was made. He said he would be more than willing to do the same for the decision regarding recreational marijuana.

There was not much more discussion about the decision to allow recreational marijuana businesses in the township. Trustee Joe Stone was not present at the meeting.
