Bruce James Shurtz, age 65, of Comins, MI, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Bruce was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 2, 1958 and grew up in Downriver, MI. He served his country in the U.S. Army, having special training in Panama and was stationed at Fort Lewis Washington. He met his first wife Tammy and started a family. He moved back to Rogers City, MI, and attended Alpena Community College for automotive service repair.

Bruce moved back to Downriver where he met his current wife, Annette.

Together they expanded their family. Bruce worked as a Diesel Mechanic until his retirement in 2014, when the couple moved to Comins. He was a member of Luzerne American Legion Post and Mio Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge. Surviving are his wife Annette Shurtz; mother Delores Wilding; children Brooke Shurtz and Jonathon (Bri) Shurtz; stepdaughter Amanda (Adam) Phillips; grandchild Esmeralda (Esme) Phillips, and several siblings.

Bruce was preceded in death by his father Gerald Shurtz, stepmother Marlene, brother Randy and stepbrother Chuck.

Visitation 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30 at Lashley Funeral Home, Mio, MI. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31 at the funeral home, with Pastor Tony Petronico officiating. Military Honors offered by members of the Luzerne and Mio American Legion Posts and the Mio VFW.

A luncheon will follow at Liberty Riders MC, 41 E.
