Betty Jean Scherzer Phillips, age 83 of Mio, Michigan, passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.
Betty was born in Caro, Michigan on December 25, 1939, to Frank and Lillian (Darbee) Southworth. She married Raymond William Scherzer, and they had five children. Betty worked for Proto-Tube and as a florist at Flower’s by B’s. She was also a Grandma at Mio AuSable School for 13 years. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and animals (especially her birds). She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren; big family get-togethers were her most precious times. She loved baking, always making sure there were goodies in the house.

Betty also enjoyed being around her children’s friends and they loved spending time with her as well. She also loved crocheting, sewing and painting.
Betty is survived by her daughters Kathy Hochstetler, Karen Scherzer, and Kristen Lafnitzegger; her sister Leone Wolfgang of Mio; her brother Bert Southworth of Caro; and her grandchildren: Christopher Hochstetler, Masen Scherzer, Kaylea Blamer, Kenneth Scherzer, Samantha Travis, and Nicole Scherzer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sons Matthew Scherzer and Mitchell Scherzer; two sisters: Margaret Waasdorp and Pauline Ott and two brothers: Ed Southworth and Fred Southworth.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Emma Lowery Church in Luzerne, Michigan at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow from Noon – 2 p.m., with interment of ashes at 2 p.m. at Luzerne Cemetery.
