Katherine E. Somers, age 75 of Mio, Michigan, passed away at her home on Friday, March 24, 2023.

Katherine was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 4, 1948, to Frank and Bettye (Wagner) Cowger, Sr. She married George L. Somers, Jr. on August 13, 1965. The family settled in Mio in 1973 from Farmington, Michigan. Kathy worked as a cashier at Glen’s Market, as a secretary for Prototube, and also as a Teacher’s Aide at Mio AuSable Schools.

She was also secretary and treasurer for the Irisarians with Ben Azer. She enjoyed attending heavy metal and rock concerts when her son Bret was younger, motorcycle riding with George L., and cross-country and downhill skiing.

Kathy is survived by her son Bret Somers of Grand Blanc, MI; three sisters: Colleen McDowell, Marianne Cowger, and Linda (Jim) Matulevicz; one brother Frank (Beth) Cowger, Jr.; and two grandchildren: Bryce (Sabrina) Somers and Payton Somers. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband George L. Somers, Jr.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held Sunday, August 13, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Mentor Township Cemetery, Mio.
