John E. “Jack” LeeFree Access

Died October 12, 2020

On Monday, October 12, 2020, 85, of Fairview, Michigan, passed away at Munson Hospital-Grayling.  

Jack was born on June 9, 1935 to Harold and Loia (Church) Lee. The family then moved to Lewiston and settled there opening the “Coffee Cup” where he often helped his mother. He attended and graduated from Atlanta Schools. Jack married Fern Hunsberger on July 26, 1958 in Harrison, Michigan. Jack and Fern settled in Fairview, Michigan where they raised their family. He served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the Elite 101st Airborne Division. Jack had no fear and loved jumping from planes. He worked for State Wide Real Estate in Mio and also a logger and real estate investor for many years. He was also an entrepreneur and owner of Wild Turkey Saloon and Comins Restaurant. Jack was a member of the Comins Eagles. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisher and woodsman. His other hobbies included playing horseshoes and shooting pool. He was a very giving man and lived his life on the edge. Jack’s grandchildren meant the world to him and he loved them very much.

Jack is survived by his children, Gaye (Bernard) Lee-Peters of Grayling, MI, Cary (Mona) Lee of Saginaw, MI and Todd (Verna) Lee of Comins, MI; his brother, Lyle (Jo) Lee of Lewiston, MI; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and his sister-in-law, Georgene Lee of Lewiston, MI. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fern; his brother, Carroll Lee and a great-grandson, Jackson Lee.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at the Comins Community Church in Comins, Michigan, on Saturday, October 17, 2020. Visitation is at 1:30 p.m., service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Salsbury officiating, followed by Military Honors and a Celebration of Life until 4 p.m. Private interment of ashes at a later date at the Fairview Cemetery.
