Elizabeth (Bette) M. Hardy

Elizabeth (Bette) M. Hardy, age 95, of Mio, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at her home.

Bette was born in Clinton, Indiana on August 15, 1926, the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (McLeish) Durnian.

Her family moved from Indiana to Detroit where she worked for General Motors at Detroit City Airport. Her young family moved to Luzerne in 1957 to open the doors of the Lost Creek Sky Ranch. She loved raising her sons there, where horseback riding, fishing, birding, anything outdoors, was at their fingertips. She also ran the “Flying R Pizza Bar,” and a very successful Christmas wreath business.

Bette loved people, and everyone that knew her, loved her like a mom, sister, or best friend rolled into one wonderful person. Everyone she met could sense her kindness and open heart, knowing they had found a good friend.

Bette is survived by her son, Michael Hardy, and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Charles (Chuck) J. Hardy, and sister, Mary A. Smith.

In accordance with Bette’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mio on Friday, February 25, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Interment of ashes at Mentor Township Cemetery in the spring.

Memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Woods, Shrine Restoration Fund.
