Died December 1, 2020

Earl Thomas Maurer peacefully passed away December 1, 2020 at the age of 90 in his home in Comins, Michigan surrounded by his loved ones.

Earl was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Joan Christine (Damon) Maurer. He is survived by his children, Terry (Kate) Maurer, Dawn (Richard) Harrison, Tammy (Ted) Emig, Laurie Devol and Shawn (Colette) Maurer, thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Earl was born May 6, 1930 in Comins, Michigan to Charles Darwin Maurer and Alpha Marie (McIntire) Maurer. He graduated from Hillman Community Schools in 1947 and went to work in Chicago, Illinois for Aldens Catalog Company. Following a road trip to Texas with two of his closest friends, Earl worked as a deckhand on a freighter on the Great Lakes. Earl then moved to Detroit to work for Ford Motor Company and moved on to Chrysler and eventually went to work at General Motors Fisher Body plant in Flint, Michigan where he worked as a Master Craftsman until he retired in 1977.

While working in Flint he met and married the love of his life, Joan. After his wife and family, Earl’s other love was for guns. He became a federal firearms dealer in the 1950s and enjoyed buying, selling and trading guns with his many friends right up until his death.

Earl has left a big hole in the lives of the people who love him, as well as the many close friends that he has made over the years. He has also touched so many lives during his 90 years on this Earth that they are too numerous to name, and has left a legacy that many of us can only dream of.
