Anna M. Jantzi, 88, born July 23, 1932 to Aaron and Fannie (Stoltzfus) Jantzi, passed on to heaven on August 20, 2020 at the Wellspring Nursing Home in Fairview, Michigan.
One month ago, her sister, Mary S. Jantzi, born December 11, 1930, passed away and was buried on July 23, on Anna’s birthday.
Anna’s deep desire in life was to be a school teacher. Finally, her dream was realized after she received a BS degree in Education from Eastern Mennonite College in Virginia. Later, she received her Master’s Degree from CMU. Anna spent decades teaching children in several places: New Holland, PA; Battle Creek, MI; Fairview, MI; and a year of voluntary service in Puerto Rico. Her love and passion for teaching children is shown in the detailed scrapbooks she kept of the children, as well as articles and newspaper clippings.
Anna’s sister Edith writes: “However, Anna was a teacher long before she had any degrees. As an older sister, she read big books to me when I was age five through eight. I listened intently to every word, although at that time, I didn’t grasp the concepts. However, one book, Light from Heaven by Christmas Carol Kaufman, had a profound effect on me. Anna made games on paper for us to play. Together we drew pictures of birds, animals and flowers on whatever scrap piece of paper we could find. We spent many hours putting together puzzles and playing table games.”
Anna’s faith in God was deep and strong. She participated fully in all areas of service to the Mennonite Church teaching Bible classes. In the women’s group, WMSA, she contributed hundreds of comforters for Relief to the Needy. She gave liberally to Mission funds.
Anna’s love and passion for life was shown in whatever she did. Flowers flourished and vegetables grew in her gardens because she took great care to prepare the soil and attend to them as they grew. Life, like a many faceted diamond, reflects light in all directions. Anna’s special love and beauty is shown in the service she gave to life and to the betterment of the world. On this earth, we say Farewell to a great Soul.
A Graveside Service will be held at the Jantzi family burial place in Kittle Cemetery for Anna at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2020, with Wallace Oaks officiating. Social distancing and wearing of masks is encouraged to help prevent spreading the COVID-19 virus.
