Mio AuSable students participate in 2019 Youth in Government excursion

Volunteer students from Mio AuSable Schools headed to Lansing Feb. 28 to participate in the YMCA Youth in Government conferences. The local students joined roughly 1,000 of their peers from around the state to serve as legislators, lobbyists, lawyers and reporters throughout the event. The goal was to learn more about the government in a hands-on capacity. There were various exercises students participated in, one of which was the Model Judiciary program. Through it students study the judicial process, research a civil or criminal court case and argue for or against it at a conference competition. Other exercises included deeper dives into lobbying, being a member of the press, being a part of a governor’s cabinet or even joining a program centered around national issues.
