Forrest Maynard Rhoads, 82, of Luzerne passed away at his home Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, of B-cell lymphoma.

Forrest was born in Comins July 27, 1935, the fifth child of Alta (Hartzler) Rhoads and William Rhoads. He grew up in Comins and graduated from Fairview School in 1954. After graduation, Forrest volunteered for the U.S. Army draft and served from 1954-1956, receiving an honorable discharge. He married Marjorie (Reeves) on Dec. 28, 1955. Forrest worked in forestry after his discharge until recently, when he was unable to do the walking required by the work. He loved horses and helped lay out the Michigan Shore to Shore Riding Trail. He also loved snowmobiling at the family cabin in Canada until the last few years.

Forrest is survived by his wife, Marjorie; a daughter, Anita Bills and son-in-law Rick Bills of Luzerne; a son, Darren Rhoads and daughter-in-law Carla Rhoads of Mio; and six grandchildren, Nycole (Jeremy) Kelly of Detroit, Lindsay Bills, Ryan (Cassandra) Bills, Bradley Rhoads and Garrett Rhoads, all of Mio, and Nona Rhoads of Grand Rapids.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at TriPoint Church of God, Mio, at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to TriPoint Church of God, InTeliCare Hospice — Standish or to Lydia’s Gate.

These arrangements were handled by Lashley Funeral Home, Mio.
