County signs new contract with outgoing housing dept. director

MIO — Cy Wakeley has signed a new agreement with the county to remain on staff on a per diem basis to help train the prospective director of the housing department.

Wakeley’s current contract with the county was slated to end in mid-November after he gave his 90-day resignation. However, the contract has been extended to the end of the year with full pay.

Board Chairperson LaNita Olsen said she believes keeping Wakeley on in order to help train the future director is the best course of action.

“After running a program for 25 years it’s going to be difficult to train someone spur of the moment,” she said.

Each time Wakeley is called upon he will be paid $65 and receive pay based on mileage traveled to make it to the office. Wakeley will be retained until May 2019 in this capacity.

The county will soon be advertising for a new housing department director.
