OSCODA COUNTY — The Economic Development Alliance for Oscoda County is aiming for more people to participate in this year’s 200-mile Grayling to Oscoda Multi-Loop Garage/Yard/Side of the Road Sale.
The third annual sale is scheduled to take place June 1-3, and EDA Board Chairman Bob Matteson said a map and information regarding this year’s sale was mailed as part of an EDA newsletter sent out to Oscoda County residents on Dec. 28-29.
Matteson also distributed that information at the conclusion of the Oscoda County Board of Commissioners meeting Jan. 24.
According to Matteson, the EDA’s main objective in sending out the sale information is to get county residents to put the garage sale on their calendars so they can plan ahead, thus increasing the possibility of more people hosting garage sales during that weekend.
“We did it as a black and white stuffer,” he said. “My whole idea was to make sure we got to as many people as possible about that.”
Matteson said word has spread outside of the AuSable River region about the garage sale, but participation needs to increase in Oscoda County and other local communities.
“We’re drawing people from at least two other states and Ontario,” he said. “What we need are lots and lots of sales in order to grow this thing. You want to see all kinds of colored balloons and signs.”
Matteson said there are no changes currently planned for the sale route.
“We’re going to stick with the same route until we find something wrong with it,” he said.
