I’m getting really sick of seeing the term “racist” being thrown around so loosely.
Whether you support the Arizona immigration law, oppose the mosque being built near ground zero, or think Reverend Al Sharpton needs to have his jaws permanently wired shut, there are many people who would be quick to call you racist.
Thanks to the progressive left, we are taking swift step backward on the road to equality. The racism they speak of no longer refers to the inequality of rights that our country has worked so long to resolve. No, according to progressive organizations like union organization SEIU or Students for a Democratic Society, racism and conservatism have become synonymous.
If you support the Arizona immigration law, you are a racist. It doesn’t matter that the law nearly mirrors the federal immigration law and is actually less subject to racial discrimination. It doesn’t matter that drug and gang-related crimes on and around the border are at an all-time high. It doesn’t even matter that the feds rarely enforce their own immigration law, leaving Arizona and other border states to fend for themselves. No, if you support the Arizona law, you hate Hispanics.
If you don’t approve of the mosque that was recently approved to be built near Ground Zero, you are definitely a racist. Sure, you may feel that placing a mosque near that particular location is in poor taste, and in violation of many New Yorkers’ pursuit of happiness, and that it is not a violation of religious freedom to request that it be built somewhere else. Even if you don’t acknowledge the idea that the construction of mosques atop conquered ground has been used as an act of dominance and forceful submission since the crusades, you must be anti-muslim.
This is the kind of rhetoric that has become acceptable in our society, thanks to the ever-growing wave of political correctness being fueled by the progressive left. Meanwhile, Kenneth Gladney is beaten by a couple SEIU members at a Tea Party rally for the high crime of handing out “Don’t Tread on Me” flags while being black, then on top of that, Gladney is called an “Uncle Tom” at an NAACP rally.
Speaking of the Tea Partiers, you’ve been branded as the pinnacle of racism in America. Your violent rallies that have resulted in no injuries or deaths and hateful rhetoric that preaches equality for everyone and accountability in politics just has no place in a politically correct America.
For all of you who may have forgotten, racism refers to the hatred of a race other than your own, and a belief that other racial groups don’t deserve the same rights as your own. As long as you believe that everyone deserves the right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, you cannot possibly be a racist.
Racism will continue to be a problem in America until we decide that differences in skin color or religious beliefs are no longer legitimate issues, because it is the acknowledgement of the importance of race that fuels the divisions among people. This will never happen as long as the progressive left continues to stoke the fire that has been trying to die for years. So tell me, who are the true racists in our country?
