State wrestling finals update

Mio

After winning his first two matches in the Individual state wrestling finals, Mio's Aaron Smith (145) lost 4-3 to Chase Baxter, of Springport in the third round. Baxter went on to take first place. Smith would be defeated again, 7-4, by Malcolm Martin, of Hesperia. Martin finished in third. Smith moved to the fifth place match, where he won 8-0 against East Jackson's Nick Glair.

Mio's Zack Mack (103) was 1-1 in the first two rounds, and won his third match over Carson City Crystal's Keneth Dittenber 10-4. Mack then faced Ivan Gallegos, of Covert, and lost 15-3. This left Mack in the seventh place match, where he defeated Marlette's Travis Noble.

Pinconning

Pinconning's Charles Burch (140) lost his third round match against Elvis Peacock, of Chippewa Hills, 9-6. Burch then was topped by Saginaw Swan Valley's Jerry Flores 9-3. He then was in the fifth place match. He secured fifth place by pinning Ty Hagar, of Erie Mason, in 45 seconds.

In the 152-pound division, Pinny's Brian Hardy lost his third round match to Kody O'neill, of Reed City by the score of 12-0. Next, Hardy was defeated by Mike Allen, of Mason County Central, 5-2. Hardy then had a fifth place match with Caleb Smith, of Birch Run. Smith topped Hardy 7-4, leaving Hardy with a sixth place medal.
